Businesses are simply clusters of people.
We have staff, customers and suppliers. Despite the fact that these are often organisations don’t forget that these organisations exist as much as anything because of their people. How successful would any business be without the significant contribution and effort of the people involved?
I’ve yet to find a business that is able to engage with another business without a person being involved!
Therefore its important to never forget that the way you behave and treat people is generally always reflected in the way that you are treated.
Maintaining simple commitments to your team is critical. It should go without saying that paying entitlements like superannuation are fundamental to ensuring trust is maintained, however the number of businesses that neglect to do this in Australia is quite staggering. Furthermore, many make it worse by not even bothering to communicate the fact that they are not meeting these obligations with their staff. Maybe a better approach to is to simply admit you have financial challenges and enlist the support of your team to help? They might even have some ideas that could seriously make a difference!! I venture to suggest that if the business is having challenges that prevent the payment of things like superannuation, those challenges are exhibited in other ways such as the temperament of the owner / founder and so on.
Certainly in my life I’ve seen the reality of the expression ” what goes around, comes around”. Remember that the way you behave today will impact future events.
As employers or leaders we have a responsibility to ensure the health and success of our businesses, through the wellbeing of our people. Ignoring that is at your peril!
